Developed for tv animation, Horus the Cat is set in Ancient Egypt, amongst the temples,

pyramids, palaces and underground chambers built by the pharaohs. The ruling Pharaoh appears

as a rather benign figure compared to the other characters that dwell in this shadowy world.

Horus is a street-wise cat who thinks that in a previous life (which of his other eight lives he’s not

sure) he may have been a god. After all he is a black cat who wears a nose ring and has been

named after a god. He tries to ignore the fact that all the other characters have also been named

after gods. He is a free spirit who likes to roam. This is his domain and he does not like other cats

intruding, unless invited.

Min and Bes are the Pharaoh’s twin daughters. Because of who they are, they get away with a lot

of things that others would not. They are very mischievous.

The high-priestess of the temple and of all things sacred, Ureaus often suffers a certain

irreverence from others.

Hapi and Mut are incompetent tomb-robbers who are usually in the wrong place at the wrong

time, trying to rob tombs that have already been robbed. Apart from that…they are complete

failures.

Giza the camel is their getaway vehicle. He doesn’t always do as he is told and can be

a bit grumpy.

Seth is an artist who decorates new, and maintains, old temple walls and chambers. Some of the

figures in these paintings are a bit restless after 2000 years of doing nothing. To alleviate

the boredom they like to have some fun.

Geb, assistant to Seth, tries hard, but has a lot to learn. Sometimes he is genuinely

helpful, sometimes quite the reverse. Unfortunately, Seth never knows which it will be on the day.

Ptah is the Pharaoh’s chief minister and arch-enemy of Horus. He sees Horus as a nuisance and

even subversive. He would like nothing more than be rid of him, and has tried for years to make

this happen.

Shu appears in the most unlikely places. As a king cobra he can get to places others cannot.

Embalmers also inhabit this ancient world, mummifying anything they can get their hands on. In

fact, mummies lurk around every corner . . . as do more unusual figures . . .

Horus appreciates you popping by to meet the guys . . . even Ptah! He’s off home now to put his

feet up and enjoy his favourite takeaway . . . funny, I’m sure he had that for breakfast as well .
